Ellie Greenwich - The Kind Of Girl You Can't Forget

Ellie Greenwich - The Kind Of Girl You Can't Forget

Ellie Greenwich is easily one of the most recognizable songwriting names of the 60s. Along with Jeff Barry, Tony Powers and others, she crafted songs that are as familiar today as when first issued in that golden decade. Songs such as “Leader Of The Pack”, “Be My Baby”, “Da Doo Ron Ron”, “Chapel Of Love” and “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” (with the extra “Diddy” courtesy of Manfred Mann). On this CD, we offer something different. We feature stereo versions of the Ronettes “Be My Baby, the Exciters’ “Doo Wah Diddy” and Baby Jane & The Rock-a-byes “Hickory Dickory Dock” plus many others. We then add some of Ellie Greenwich’s lesser known songs that collectors are searching for from the early 60s. Finally, we include 7 top quality demo tracks; sung by the great lady herself, giving the fans the opportunity to see what a fine singer Ellie was. So, yes, there’s Ellie’s demos of “Maybe I Know”, “The Look Of Love”, “Do Wah Diddy” – and many more. There’s a 24 page booklet, which, as has come to be expected from RRR, contains track by track notes, label and album cover scans and rare pics. 8 tracks in STEREO with two tracks being featured in TRUE STEREO for the very first time on CD. The introduction is by noted rock and roll historian, Brian Gari and what makes this special - is that Brian was involved in Ellie’s world in the 70s and he shares reminiscences of this period with us. A must read! RELEASE DATE : OCTOBER 23, 2015 YOU CAN ORDER NOW, BUT PLEASE NOTE: ORDERS WILL NOT BE SHIPPED UNTIL 23rd October 2015.

A SOUND FOR ALL (FOUR) SEASONS: a selection of jersey harmony sound-a-likes 32 Group Sound Rarities 1963-1967

    Regular Price: US$29.94

    Special Price: US$26.48

Foot Stomps. Hand Claps. Wailing double-tracked falsetto. Close echoing harmonies. Thundering drums. Lyrics about love found…and lost. These are the sounds that dominated the airwaves throughout the 1960s courtesy of four gentlemen from Newark, New Jersey. The Seasons sound defined a wildly changing music landscape of a turbulent generation. Of course, where there are true originals, there are bound to be imitators. This compilation aims to cover just a smattering of aspiring artists trying to capitalize on a smash sound that overtook the nation. You’ll find records from all over the USA: for example, check out Jersey-by-way-of-Texas on The Coastliners’ “I See Me”. There are also some “close to the source” copycats – featured artist spotlight group The Four Evers shared many of the same key producers, arrangers and writers that made the real thing a success. Close your eyes and you might just find yourself believing it’s the real thing. 32 obscure tracks, including 6 tracks by The Four-Evers, all material from 1963-1967, with a detailed 16 page colour booklet with rare label scans and liner notes. All tracks digitally remastered and many have never been re-issued on CD before.

    Joe South: Golden Records 1961-1966

    Regular Price: US$28.77

    Special Price: US$25.33

Joe South entered the Top 20 with his Grammy winning award song, “Games People Play” in 1969. The song was featured on his highly respected album, “Introspect”. Two years later, Lyn Anderson scored a big country/pop hit with another of Joe’s songs, "Rose Garden". Joe’s career, however, began ten years earlier – and he did it all. He was a recording artist, in demand session player, songwriter and producer. He played an important role in the early career of the Tams and Billy Joe Royal and both acts have had rock and roll longevity. “Golden Records – 1961-1966” brings together the very best of Joe’s songs from this period. Some he recorded himself, some he produced for others – but he wrote them all. On this CD, we find hits such as the Tams “Untie Me” from 1962 and Billy Joe Royal’s “Down In The Boondocks” from 1965. Rare Rockin’ Records have also included some rare titles from artists such as the Chips, Vince Everett, Billy Joe Royal and Joe himself. Many are on CD for the first time. Features a 16 page full color booklet with extensive liner notes and label scans. 32 tracks, 8 in stereo with a sound quality that so reflects the title of this CD, “Golden Records”

  • Guys on 45

    Guys on 45

    Regular Price: US$28.77

    Special Price: US$25.91

Following the success of three volumes of Girls On 45 series, we at Teensville decided it was time to give the guys a chance. The theme of this package is generally in the popcorn and beat ballad northern soul mould of the early to mid 60s, with a few teen slanted songs mixed in, including some group sounds. All feature strong production values, as is more than evidenced by the songwriters, arrangers and producers involved. The singers also played their part and we’re again left wondering why so many didn’t achieve more than the modicum of fame than history shows. 26 obscure tracks from 1961-1965, with a detailed 12 page colour booklet with rare label scans and track by track info. All tracks digitally remastered and most have never been re-issued on CD before.

  • The Fortunes - the complete decca singles 1963-1967 and more

The Fortunes - the complete decca singles 1963-1967 and more

    Regular Price: US$28.78

    Special Price: US$21.88

BRAND NEW CD IMPORT FROM EUROPE! The illustrious Fortunes formed as a vocal trio – Rod Allen, Glen Dale & Barry Pritchard. Backed by instrumental crew The Cliftones, they released their first single in 1963, a cover of The Jamies’ “Summertime, Summertime” backed with Pritchard’s original “I Love Her Still” (both sides can be found here as bonus tracks). It flopped – the three Fortunes dropped The Cliftones and became a five piece with the addition of new members David Carr and Andy Brown. Their next single, “Caroline”, may not have been a chart success, but was fondly loved as the theme song to Britain’s first infamous pirate radio station, Radio Caroline. Trying once again, the lads released an excellent, Mersey-influenced two sider, “Come On Girl”/”I Like The Look Of You”…and then another, “Look Homeward Angel”. Despite the fantastic and harmonious sounds coming out of the grooves, still no chart action for The Fortunes. Fame and fortune (pun intended!) was found with their next 45, Greenaway & Cook’s innovative “You’ve Got Your Troubles”. “Troubles” launched them into the Top Five in England and Top Ten in America. An album was released to capitalize on the sudden success – and an excellent one at that – with readings of current hits by others like “Looking Through The Eyes of Love” and “All Cried Out”, as well as top notch originals penned by outside writers – see “Won’t You Give Him (One More Chance)” and “Laughing Fit To Cry” for examples of tracks that could have easily been A-Sides for the guys. Due to space constraints, we could not include “Maria” and “You Can Have Her” on this package. However, the rest of the album can be found on this disc. The album also included their next hit, “Here It Comes Again”, going all the way to #4 in the UK and just making the Top 30 in America. “This Golden Ring” followed the same formula, and found favour with UK buyers. Further singles showed the group developing and maturing their sound, but record sales declined. In 1967, Decca and The Fortunes parted ways. We are proud to present, for the very first time ever, the complete Decca singles of The Fortunes. As a bonus to you, the listener, we also included the majority of their first 1965 album. 31 Tracks with 12 tracks in stereo.

Steve Lawrence Walking Proud: The Teen/Pop Sides 1959-1966

    Regular Price: US$28.77

    Special Price: US$25.33

Teensville proudly unveils a 33 track CD featuring the teen and pop recordings of Steve Lawrence. Steve has been a recording artist for five decades but this is the first time that all his teen and pop titles from the golden years of 1959 to 1966 are together on one CD. The hits are here - and they don’t come any better than “Pretty Blue Eyes”, “Footsteps” and “Go Away Little Girl” – but fans and collectors are going to enjoy finding such lesser known songs as “Put Away Your Teardrops” and “I’m Making The Same Mistakes Again”. 12 of the tracks are in stereo. The songs are drawn from three different labels, ABC Paramount, United Artists and Columbia. Steve had Top-10 hits on all three labels. We also feature the big hit duets – such as “I Want To Stay Here” - that Steve recorded with his wife and partner, Eydie Gorme. To round out this collection, we have added seven tracks from Eydie’s Columbia days, starting with her Top-10 hit from 1963, “Blame It On The Bossa Nova”. A fantastic 16 page color booklet, includes chart placings, pictures, label scans and a commentary from the diehard collectors at Teensville. If you’re a fan of Steve and Eydie or you love top quality “Brill Building” sounds with the best in production values, this set is for you!
